I confess to be very interested in books abut Africa, specifically hunting in Africa. I am an avid hunter from the US, and find the exotic animals, environments, and experiences fascinating.However, there aren't many books available on the kindle.
I stumbled upon this one and was pleasantly surprised. It was originally written as a "boys" book around the turn of the 19th century.
it follows the fictional story of six boys on a hunting trek in South Africa.
Today, when I dont think "boys" books even exist,it is refreshing to see what was meant to be read by our young men over one hundred years ago.
It is a quick read, and heavy with startlingly correct Latin naming of animals encountered. Who new our boys could be capable of intellectual thought AND adventure.
Give it a try, and take the time to google image the animals referenced. It brings it to life.
I look forward to the day my son and daughter are old enough to read it. You will need to do the required explanation of racism in the 19th century. This is a great conversation to have anyway.

It wasn't what I thought it would be, but it does give some insight into the way things were in the Africa of long ago. I was looking for more hunting and less adolescent adventure..
